New Paddlers wishing to "try" outrigger canoeing are able to come along to specially arranged beginners sessions. These are held at prearranged dates throughout the year, usually on a Saturday morning at around 8:00am. If you would like to attend one of these session, please contact us first to find out when the next session will be held, and to ensure your place.
Don't worry if you haven't paddled before as this session is for all levels of fitness and ability. Experienced paddlers will take you through the basics of outrigger canoeing and you can see first hand what all of the hype is about! We will need to ask you a few questions before you participate. For example, you must be a competent swimmer, and declare any medical condition before participating in this sport.
Important - All new paddlers must complete an AOCRA Indemnity form prior to going on the water (these forms will be made available to you on your first session).
What to Bring:
First of all, come along and try it out. See if you enjoy the sport of paddling and decide whether this is something you can see yourself doing. We offer 4 free paddles before we ask that you make a financial commitment to the club.
It's also important to note that we support people who want to paddle recreationally, as well as those who have a desire to participate at a competitive level too. If you are not sure, speak to Steve Cooper our club coach and president and he can help advise you.
