About Us
Kawaihae (pronounced Ka-why-e-hi) Outrigger Canoe Club Ballina, was established in late November 2004 by a group of outrigger canoeing enthusiasts. Sick of travelling to the Gold Coast to get regular practice with established clubs or participation in paddling events, and with a desire to see the sport represented in our own beautiful part of Australia, we decided to put in the energy and establish a club for the region.
As a new club, there are plenty of challenges to face. We rely greatly upon the commitment of all our members to help make this club successful. Kawaihae's vision is to:
- Support and facilitate the recreational and competitive participation in outrigger canoeing by members and their guests; and
- Support and facilitate the development and continuity of a social, family and community oriented sporting club
